Implementation of Parent Link Centres

The implementation of Parent Link Centres has three components.
  • The first was the establishment of a Minister's Advisory Committee, which provided leadership and advice to the Ministry on the initiative. The Committee includes representation from Child and Family Services Authorities, Family and Community Support Services, the Alberta School Board Association, Public Health Authorities, Aboriginal groups, and community leaders.
  • The second component was the identification of four existing parent resource centres as 'early leaders'. These organizations are currently delivering a best practices model or represent an approach to parenting resources that we wish to showcase to the broader community. The early leaders are, Awo Taan Native Women's Shelter in Calgary, Calgary Catholic Immigration Society, Red Deer Family Services and Strathcona County.
  • The third component is a community planning process to identify the location of the remaining centres. Under the leadership of the Minister's Advisory Committee, Child and Family Services Authorities, in partnership with Family and Community Support Services and others (e.g. school boards, municipalities, and public health units) will identify their current inventory of parent resource centres, the gaps in service and an organization(s) that could receive funding to become a Parent Link Centre. Funding will be used to expand hours of operation, enhance current services to ensure that all four core services are available and create partnerships with other organizations.
